When Lori and Darryl Jones noticed their 2-year-old son, Jaxon, struggling to communicate, they were understandably worried. Jaxon wasn’t speaking in full sentences and often became frustrated when he couldn’t express himself. After trying private therapy sessions and enrolling him in another PUF program with minimal results, Lori and Darryl felt lost and unsure how to help Jaxon reach his potential.
That’s when they found The Apraxia Preschool Program (TAPP). Despite living in Leduc, the family was determined to get Jaxon the help he needed and drove to the program every day to ensure he received the specialized support. TAPP, designed specifically for children with childhood apraxia of speech (CAS) and other speech delays, quickly became a turning point for Jaxon. Through the generous support of donors like you, Jaxon was able to access therapy tailored to his unique needs, helping him develop the skills to communicate more clearly and confidently.
The teachers and therapists at TAPP went above and beyond to make each child feel special and unique. They took the time to understand Jaxon’s strengths and challenges and created a nurturing environment where he felt valued. Whether it was through individualized therapy sessions or engaging activities designed to help him develop his communication skills, the staff made sure Jaxon felt supported every step of the way. Moreover, Jaxon’s teachers received specialized training through Apraxia Kids, an organization dedicated to supporting professionals working with children with speech disorders. This training provided them with the strategies and tools to create an ideal educational environment for Jaxon to thrive. With a well-rounded support system in place—combining therapy, parent resources, and educator training—Jaxon’s progress soared. He began to speak more clearly, and his connection with his peers grew stronger as he could express himself more easily and engage in meaningful social interactions.
Today, Jaxon is thriving—he communicates with ease, enjoys spending time with friends, and is excited about learning. Lori and Darryl are deeply grateful for everything they’ve gained. “Before we found TAPP, we didn’t know where to turn,” says Lori. “The daily drive was worth it for Jaxon to receive the help he needed. He is a completely different child now, and we couldn’t be more thankful. And now, we have a community that truly understands and supports us.”
